CROMOLYN (Crolom®, Cromoptic®, and Opticrom®) helps to relieve seasonal allergic eye disorders. Allergic conjunctivitis produces intense itching and inflammation. It can be brought on by exposure to allergens, such as pollen, and is more common in warm weather. Generic cromolyn eye solution is available.

What should I tell my health care provider before I take this medicine? (Back to top)
They need to know if you have any of these conditions:
•soft contact lens wearer
•an unusual or allergic reaction to cromolyn, other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
•pregnant or trying to get pregnant
•breast-feeding

How should I use this medicine? (Back to top)
Cromolyn eye solution is only for use in the eye. Do not take by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Wash hands before and after use. Tilt your head back slightly and pull your lower eyelid down with your index finger to form a pouch. Try not to touch the tip of the dropper to your eye, fingertips, or any other surface. Squeeze the prescribed number of drops into the pouch. Close the eye for a few moments to spread the drops. Use your doses at regular intervals. Do not use your medicine more often than directed. Do not stop using except on your prescriber's advice.

Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.

What if I miss a dose? (Back to top)
If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.

What drug(s) may interact with cromolyn? (Back to top)
There have been no interactions reported between cromolyn and other medicines.

Tell your prescriber or health care professional: about any other eye products that you are using. These may affect the way your medicine works. Check with your health care professional before stopping or starting any of your medicines.

What side effects may I notice from using cromolyn? (Back to top)
Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
•rash or redness around the eye
•redness in the white part of the eye
•swelling of the membrane covering the white part of the eye

What should I watch for while taking cromolyn? (Back to top)
Tell your prescriber or health care professional if your symptoms do not improve within a few days.

The manufacturer recommends that soft contact lenses are not worn during use of cromolyn eye solution. Ask your prescriber or health care professional for advice if you wear contact lenses.

Where can I keep my medicine? (Back to top)
Keep out of the reach of children.

Store at room temperature between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F); do not freeze. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
